Globe trotting for love, high stepping, barbershop barbs and taking a movie star up an Italian mountain were some of the high lights of Monday’s primetime – and romance won out. Spanning from Northern Ireland to Park City, Utah, things got down to a final two suitors on The Bachelorette (1.9/7) last night. The top rated and most watched show of a somewhat slow night, the 2-hour romance competition show also was down, slightly. The Bachelorette slipped 5% among adults 18-49 from its July 6 performance. With freshman drama The Whispers (0.9/3) rising 13%, ABC tied NBC for the top overall rating spot of Monday with a 1.6/5. In viewership, the Disney-owned net was No.#1 with 5.86 million tuning in.
NBC’s night also started out with some downward ratings movement with American Ninja Warriors (1.7/6) sliding 11% from last week to hit a season low in preliminary numbers. In the only debut of the night, the second season premiere of Running Wild With Bear Grylls (1.3/4) saw Kate Hudson testing her survival skills and join the former SAS reservist trekking through the wilds of Italy. Coming a week after Grylls’ The Island ended its first season on NBC, Running Wild’s S2 launch was basically steady with its Season 1 debut of July 28 last year. This year’s debut was down 7% among the key demo from 2014. Compared to The Island finale of July 6, last night’s Running Wild was up 30% among adults 18-49 in the same time slot.
The CW saw the second week of Season 2 of Penn & Teller: Fool Us (0.5/2) even with last week’s series low. However, viewershipwise, Fool Us was up 20% to 1.99 million and hit a 4-year time slot high for The CW. Whose Line Is It Anyway (0.5/2) and Cedric’s Barber Battles (0.4/1) were both up double digits for the second week in a row with respective rises of 25% and 33%. CBS was all encores last night.
The eliminations haven’t started yet on So You Think You Can Dance (1.0/3) – that begins next week. As it stands right now, compared to last week, the 2-hour Fox show was even with its July 6th show.
