Film Movement has acquired North American rights to Take Me To The River, the debut feature of Matt Sobel that premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. A theatrical release is planned for January 2016. Sobel’s coming-of-age drama follows a California teen (Logan Miller) who travels to a family reunion in Nebraska where a series of events places him in the middle of a dark family secret. Robin Weigert, Josh Hamilton, Richard Schiff and Ursula Parker co-star.
The pic resulted in a rep deal with WME for writer-director-producer Sobel, who for his next film is planning a China-set science fiction film about twin Olympic high divers and the evolution of man.
“Matt Sobel’s singular vision and storytelling in Take Me To The River is an example of the kind of filmmaking we want to champion, and we are so pleased to be releasing this film,” said Film Movement president Michael E. Rosenberg in unveiling the deal. Linzee Troubh of Cinetic Media negotiated the sale with Rosenberg.
