Supergirl‘s National City has a new citizen: Peter Facinelli of Twilight fame will be playing the recurring role of Maxwell Lord on the CBS/Warner Bros. TV drama series, it was announced tonight during the Warner Bros. TV DC Entertainment Hall H Block at Comic-Con.
Said Facinelli to the crowd in Hall H, “The last time I was here was for Twilight. That was punny!”
Lord is a rather complex character in the DC Comics Universe. He was instrumental in the formation of the Justice League International, and at one point in the 2005 comic book Countdown to Infinite crisis, uses his powers to influence Superman’s mind, sending the Man of Steel on a mission to beat up both Batman and Wonder Woman. However, on Supergirl, Lord is a green tech billionaire who enjoys a friendly rivalry with Cat Grant and is fascinated by Supergirl.
Supergirl EP Andrew Kreisberg said, “Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I have been fans of Peter for years. We’re beyond thrilled to have him join us on Supergirl’s first adventures bringing the iconic Maxwell Lord to life.”
At tonight’s Hall H panel, EP Greg Berlanti told the crowd why he chose to develop Supergirl, “I’ve been lucky enough to participate in shows with male leads at their center. I felt it was time for a female to be at the center of the show. You don’t get opportunities to do such projects as this, and you’d be ashamed to not participate in something like this.”
Supergirl debuts Monday, October 26 on CBS at a special time of 8:30PM, but will then air Mondays at 8PM. The series stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow “Winn” Schott, with David Harewood as Hank Henshaw and Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant. Berlanti, Adler, Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter are EPs.
