WGN America’s supernatural thriller Salem will be back for a third season. The announcement was made today during the show’s panel at San Diego’s Comic-Con. Season 3 will begin production in Shreveport, LA later this year for a late 2016 debut.
Salem Season 2 averaged over 1.1 million total viewers and 545,000 adults 18-49 in Live+7 in its Sunday night slot. During its second season run, the series more than doubled in Live+7 among total viewers, increasing +117% over Live+Same Day.
The one-hour drama, from creators Brannon Braga and Adam Simon and Fox 21, re-imagines the infamous 17th century witch trials in colonial Massachusetts. It stars Janet Montgomery, Shane West, Seth Gabel, Ashley Madekwe, Tamzin Merchant, Elise Eberle and Iddo Goldberg. Lucy Lawless, Stuart Townsend, Joe Doyle and Oliver Bell also joined the cast in Season 2.
Salem is executive produced by Braga, Simon, Josh Barry and Jeff Kwatinez for Prospect Park, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson. Nick Copus directs and serves as co-executive producer.
