A day after Lenny Abrahamson’s Room secured a Special Presentations berth in this year’s Toronto Film Festival, distributor A24 has slotted the pic for an October 16 platform release in New York and Los Angeles before a nationwide expansion November 6. A24 acquired rights to the pic based on Emma Donoghue’s bestselling novel at Cannes based on promo for the drama project that serves as Abrahamson’s follow-up to Frank.
The book centers on Ma (Brie Larson) and her 5-year-old son Jack (Jacob Tremblay) who live trapped in a windowless, 10-by-10-foot space. Ma has created a whole universe for Jack within what she calls Room, and she will stop at nothing to ensure that he can live a complete and fulfilling life — until it’s time to escape. Joan Allen and William H. Macy co-star.
Room is an Element Pictures and No Trace Camping production, in association with Film4, Telefilm Canada, and the Irish Film Board.
