Warner Bros has staked out a Halloween weekend release date for Our Brand Is Crisis, the political comedy-drama starring Sandra Bullock and Billy Bob Thornton. David Gordon Green’s film is based on the likewise-titled 2005 documentary by Rachel Boynton that focuses on American political campaign marketing tactics and their consequences.
Bullock stars in the feature as “Calamity” Jane Bodine, a retired political consultant brought in to help an unpopular Bolivian president get re-elected. Things get personal when Jane’s nemesis, Pat Candy (Billy Bob Thornton), arrives to lead the opposition’s campaign. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy scribe Peter Straughan penned the screenplay, and Smokehouse Pictures’ George Clooney and Grant Heslov are producing.
Our Brand Is Crisis will start its campaign October 30, facing a pair of fellow wide-release candidates: Paramount’s horror comedy Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse (fka Scouts Vs. Zombies) and — at least as it stands now — Relativity’s actioner Autobahn.
