As part of the revamp of new ABC drama series Of Kings And Prophets, ABC Studios has brought in a new director, Michael Offer, to shoot a retooled script. I hear he is expected to film an entirely new episode with all-new footage, not partial reshoots of the existing pilot helmed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff.
ABC put Of Kings And Prophets on a series track during the pilot stage with the hire of Chris Brancato as executive producer/showrunner and the setup of a writing staff. I hear the pilot has been rewritten by Brancato and the project’s original writers Adam Cooper & Bill Collage, working with the series’ writing staff.
For Offer, the Of Kings And Prophets assignment comes on the heels of him last month signing an exclusive blind pilot-directing deal with ABC Studios, which also includes a development component. I hear Of Kings And Prophets is separate from that deal, and Offer still is expected to direct a pilot for ABC next season as he did the last two with How To Get Away With Murder and Runner.
Of Kings And Prophets is described as an epic Biblical saga of faith, ambition and betrayal as told through the eyes of a battle-weary king, a powerful and resentful prophet and a resourceful young shepherd on a collision course with destiny. As part of the retool, the series also is recasting a couple of roles: Nathaniel Parker was recently cast in one of the parts. Originally picked up for a fall launch on Sunday, Of Kings And Prophets was recently pushed to midseason.
Offer is repped by ICM Partners and Writ Large.
