Open Road Films has picked up U.S. rights to Garry Marshall’s Mother’s Day, the latest in the director’s holiday movie series which includes New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day. The film, which stars Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson and Jason Sudeikis, follows the lives of several mothers leading up to the title holiday. Open Road will release Mother’s Day wide on April 29, 2016, the weekend prior to Mother’s Day. Production starts in Atlanta next month.
Deadline broke news about Marshall’s latest film back in June.
Mother’s Day marks the fourth time that Marshall has worked with Pretty Woman star Roberts and his second time with Hudson following 2004’s Raising Helen. Script is by Anya Kochoff-Romano and Lily Hollander, Matt Walker and Tom Hines. Mother’s Day is produced by Wayne Rice and Mike Karz.
Open Road’s Tom Ortenberg and Peter Lawson reeled this in. CAA packaged it and made the domestic deal. Diamond Pictures is selling foreign. Aperture Media Partners is deficit funding the film.
