After all the promotion and all the hype, it wasn’t exactly a Gold medal moment for the start of the new Caitlyn Jenner reality series on Sunday. I Am Cait drew 2.73 million viewers for its 8 PM premiere on July 26. That’s just 7% more than what the latest season debut of Keeping Up With The Kardashians pulled in back in March. Among adults 18-49, more than 54% of I Am Cait’s were in the advertiser desired demo with 1.5 million watching. That’s around the same demo numbers that Season 10 launch of KUWTK had. However, that 1.2 demo rating result for I Am Cait was tied with a Family Guy repeat at 11 PM on Adult Swim as the highest-rated show of the July 26 night among the 18-49s. The debut of I Am Cait was down 6% from the May 17 Keeping Up With The Kardashians specials on Jenner’s transformation. The first of the two shows had a total viewership of 2.916 million – a 3-year high for KUWTK.

Over all its four plays I Am Cait had a total audience of 6.2 million for E! on Sunday. The eight-part, 1-hour show about the former Kardashian step-dad and 1976 Olympian premiered internationally on local E! channels in 120 countries. The UK will get I Am Cait beginning on August 2.

About a month ago, E! shifted the airdate of the premiere of the Jenner docu-series to 8 PM from 9 PM. The latter slot was taken by the series premiere of the less high-profile Stewarts & Hamiltons. That show gained the benefit of both a much discussed lead-in and lead-out, as a repeat of the Cait premiere followed at 10 PM. The Comcast-owned cabler plan to release Live + 3 numbers for both new shows later this week.
