EXCLUSIVE: British newcomer Damson Idris has been set to co-star in FX’s pilot Snowfall, co-written and to be directed by John Singleton. He joins Billy Magnussen in the cast of the drama about the beginnings of the crack cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles in the 1980s.
Snowfall follows three characters on a violent collision course, and Idris will play one of them: Franklin Saint, young street entrepreneur on a quest for power. Born and raised on the streets of South Central but educated in an upper-class neighborhood in the Valley, he is determined to raise his station in life through whatever means necessary. Magnussen will play Logan Miller, a prominent family’s “black sheep” desperate to escape his father’s shadow. When he sees an opportunity to reverse his fortunes, he risks everything to become a player in the burgeoning L.A. cocaine trade. The third character yet to be cast is Gustavo Zapata, a Mexican wrestler-turned-gangster in search of his American dream.
The pilot from FX Productions is executive produced by Singleton, co-writer Eric Amadio, Justified’s Dave Andron, Michael London of Groundswell Productions and Trevor Engelson. Production is slated to begin this summer.
Idris has a few UK TV credits including The Missing and the film City Of Tiny Lights, but this is his big breakout. He is repped by Luber Roklin, Identity Agency Group in the UK and attorneys Craig Jacobson and John Meigs.
