Fox News Channel ranked No. 1 among all cable network in primetime total viewers, in a week dominated by breaking news out of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Last week marks the fourth time this year FNC has snagged the largest overall audience among all cable nets in primetime. FNC last topped the heap the week of April 13, which was littered with politicians announcing their White House bids. Interestingly, during the last presidential cycle, in 2011 FNC never logged the largest overall primetime cable crowd for a single week.
FNC clocked 1.77 million primetime viewers 2+ last week, outstripping No. 2 ranked HGTV with its primetime average of 1.63 million. USA came in third with 1.6 million, followed by TNT (1.56 million) and Discovery (1.47 million).
FNC’s cable news competition, meanwhile, hovered in the 20’s. MSNBC ranked No. 22 with 621,000 primetime viewers. CNN came in 27th, with 551,000 viewers.
In the news demo, 25-54, FNC came in No. 18 for the week, CNN was No. 35 and MSNBC No. 40, though some of the cable nets that topped the news networks do not sell that age bracket.
