Epic Pictures Group has set an August 28 release for Turbo Kid, the “retro-futuristic” pic that won the Midnightrers Audience Award at SXSW in March. The film from Anouk Whissell, François Simard and Yoann-Karl Whissell, the Canadian trio known jointly as RKSS Collective, will hit theaters in major markets the same day it arrives on VOD. Set in the postapocalyptic year of 1997, the nostalgic tribute to ’80s action-adventure films follows an orphaned teenager (Munro Chambers) who goes on an adventure to save his female-robot companion (Laurence Laboeuf) from the hands of the evil warlord (Michael Ironside) who controls the only water supply. Aaron Jeffery and Edwin Wright co-star. Check out the bloody new trailer above.
