Leonard Roberts (American Sniper) has been added to the cast of Ryan Murphy’s FX’s American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson. He will play Dennis Schatzman, the journalist who jumped on the O.J. Simpson soapbox to cry out about the LAPD’s war against African-Americans. Roberts replaces Gbenga Akinnagbe, who originally was cast in the role but fell out due to a scheduling conflict. (He just landed a role in Independence Day 2.)
Based on the book The Run Of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson, ACS: O.J. tells the story of the Simpson murder trial from the perspective of the lawyers. It explores the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the case and how a combination of prosecution confidence, defense wiliness and the LAPD’s history with the city’s African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.
Roberts, repped by Greene & Associates and Ellipsis Entertainment, next will be seen in the indie Love Is All You Need.
