John Carroll Lynch, who has made a meal out of roles like Twisty the Clown on American Horror Story and as the creepy suspect in David Fincher’s Zodiac, has joined The Weinstein Company’s The Founder, the story of McDonald’s icon Ray Kroc that stars Michael Keaton. Lynch will play Mac McDonald, who with his brother Dick (Nick Offerman) founded the original McDonald’s Hamburgers in 1940 in San Bernardino. Kroc went into business with the brothers and eventually took over, and the rest is history. John Lee Hancock is directing the pic, which has a November 25, 2016 release date. Laura Dern, Linda Cardellini and Patrick Wilson also star. Lynch’s recent credits include Hot Pursuit and is next up in Ted 2 which opens today. He is repped by Suskin Management.
Gwendoline Christie has joined the cast of Swallows & Amazons, the pic based on the Arthur Ransome children’s story being produced by Harbour Pictures and BBC Films. Rafe Spall, Kelly Macdonald, Andrew Scott, Harry Enfield and Jessica Hynes are already aboard for the film, which centers on four children in 1929 on holiday with their mother in the Lake District. They are allowed to sail over to the nearby island in their boat Swallow and set up camp for a few days, but soon realize this has been the territory of two other girls who sail the Amazon, and the scene is set for serious rivalry. Philippa Lowthorpe is directing Andrea Gibb’s script, and Nick Barton and Nick O’Hagan are producing. Christie, whose recent credits include Game Of Thrones, both Mockingjay movies and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is repped by Untitled Entertainment and Independent Talent Group in the UK.
