On the heels of landing a breakthrough role as the female lead opposite Morris Chestnut in the new Fox drama series Rosewood, up-and-coming actress Jaina Lee Ortiz has signed with CAA. She didn’t have agency representation.
Ortiz started off as a professional Salsa dancer career, touring internationally as an instructor and performer. Introduced to acting through student films, Ortiz studied under Maggie Flanigan in New York for two years, before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue career in acting. Within a few weeks, she landed her first audition, which led to her first TV role – a series regular in Chris Carter’s Amazon pilot The After. The pilot was picked up to series but ended up not going forward. Soon after becoming available, Ortiz was cast in Rosewood, which premieres this fall, paired with hit Empire. Written/executive produced by Todd Harthan, Rosewood centers on Dr. Beaumont Rosewood Jr. (Chestnut), a gifted, charismatic private pathologist who can read living and dead bodies like a book. Ortiz plays Karissa Villa, a former NYPD detective who recently moved back to Miami and ends up teaming up Dr. Rosewood.

Ortiz has a deeper connection to the character — she herself is the daughter of a Bronx homicide detective. Ortiz continues to be repped by Link Entertainment and attorney Lev Ginsburg at Ginsburg Daniels.
