There were some very real people tuning in for a look at a robotic parallel present on Sunday night. The 9 PM debut of Humans drew 1.726 million viewers with a 0.5 adults 18-49 rating for AMC. That’s up 44% in total viewers from the 1.2 million who plugged in on June 1 last year to the series premiere of Halt And Catch Fire. Humans’ demo result was a 47% improvement over what the 10 PM AMC 1980s-set high tech show pulled in back in 2014.
It has to be noted that on that 2014 night, H&CF’s debut was facing the Season 1 finale of HBO’s Silicon Valley, which had a new Game Of Thrones as its lead-in. As it went, Sunday’s Season 2 Episode 5 H&CF had 543,000 total viewers and a 0.18 18-49 rating. That’s actually a rise of 21% in viewership and 20% in the demo from H&CF’s June 21 show.

Still, the U.S. debut of Humans was just over 30% of what it got in the UK when the Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley-written series launched over on that side of the Atlantic on June 14. The first showing of the sci-fi show with Gemma Chan as synth Anita had just over 4 million viewers and was Channel 4’s best ever original drama debut. The second UK airing on June 21 averaged 2.5 million total viewers in what is a busy 9 PM Sunday slot.
