Chasing Life is on the move again. After announcing earlier this month that the drama’s Season 2 premiere, originally slated for Aug. 17, was being moved up to July 6, ABC Family today said that Chasing Life also is getting a new time slot, moving from the originally announced Monday 10 PM berth to 9 PM, following The Fosters. Struggling new transgender docu series Family of Us, currently airing in the 9 PM hour, will move to 10 PM starting July 6.
The decision comes 3 weeks into the seasons of family drama The Fosters and Becoming Us, about a teenage boy whose parents are divorcing and his father is transitioning into a woman. On June 8, The Fosters opened its third season with 1.3 million viewers and a 0.5 in adults 18-49, only slightly off its Season 2 opener. However, Becoming Us, which shares family and LGBT themes with The Fosters, was able to hold onto less than half of its lead-in, debuting with 638,000 viewers and a 0.2 in 18-49. The docu series’ numbers have slipped even lower since.
In an effort to give it a boost, ABCF this week announced an initiative to give Becoming Us extra sampling with airings on Fusion last night and tonight and on Lifetime on Tuesday. But before it could evaluate any possible impact, ABCF today proactively decided to move Becoming Us to 10 PM once Chasing Life joins the lineup. The move is good news for the cancer-themed Chasing Life, which would be getting a stronger lead-in from The Fosters, forming a two-hour Monday drama block.
