A former William Morris trainee is coming back to the crib, and he’s not returning alone. Turning up the volume on its music division, WME today brought Peter Schwartz and James Rubin onboard for its NYC office. Representing talent such as the critically acclaimed Run the Jewels, Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, A$AP Ferg, Danny Brown, Yelawol and the legendary Cypress Hill, the duo join WME from the Agency Group.
“Peter and James are known for their keen eye for talent and their ability to architect careers,” WME Music Partner Sara Newkirk said Monday. “They are dynamic additions to our group as we continue to build upon our world-class team of agents and artists.” A 22-year vet of the Agency Group, the now ex-VP and Head of Urban Music was a William Morris trainee way back in the early 1990s. Having been at the Agency Group since 2008, Rubin was the head of the International Division for Urban Touring, with an emphasis on breaking emerging acts in overseas markets. Formerly London-based Rubin will concentrate on that area for WME out of the Big Apple.
This latest move deeper into the music biz comes on the heels of WME picking up booking agency Artist Voice out of Australia and being named Music Agency of the Year by Pollstar.
