‘Studio City’ Creator & Star Confirm Pilot Is Dead At Fox, Hint It Will Be Shopped

This has been one of the biggest shockers so far this upfront season — the generally well received Fox drama pilot Studio City coming short at the end. Instead, the little-talked-about Lucifer adaptation had a meteoric last-minute rise and appears headed to the Fox schedule, to be joined by already picked up medical drama Rosewood and pending Minority Report and Frankenstein. While Fox is yet to make the final calls on its drama pilots, Studio City star Eric McCormack confirmed its demise at Fox on Twitter. “So wanted to share good news. But no: Fox is NOT picking up #StudioCity,” he wrote. “America, you’d have LOVED this f**king show.

Created by Krista Vernoff inspired by her real-life experiences, Studio City tells the story of a young singer’s path to stardom, as she comes of age living with her songwriter father (McCormack) — who turns out to be a drug dealer to the stars. Responding to McCormack on Twitter, Vernoff sounded hopeful that the project would find a home. “Life is good. Studio City will land. Don’t doubt it!” she wrote. The pilot’s producers, Warner Bros. TV and John Wells Prods., are expected to shop it around.

Also not going forward at Fox are comedy pilots Fantasy Life, 48 Hours ‘Til Monday, Detour and The Perfect Stanleys.
