EXCLUSIVE: Spotlight Pictures has added 7 Chinese Brothers to its Cannes sales slate. The comedy from writer-director Bob Byington (Somebody Up There Likes Me) debuted at SXSW in March and will have a U.S. day-and-date release through Screen Media Films in August. Jason Schwartzman, Tunde Adebimpe, Eleanore Pienta, Stephen Root and Olympia Dukakis star. Producers are Seana Flanagan, Molly Christie Benson, and Nancy Schafer with executive producer Christos V Konstantakopoulos.
Schwartzman plays Larry, a hapless unemployed guy with a callous outlook on life. As he bounces from one job to the next, he falls for his new supervisor (Pienta) while working at a Quick Lube station. In order to get the girl, he now must get his act together.
Spotlight’s slate in Cannes also includes coming-of-age drama Yosemite, with James Franco and Henry Hopper; animated family pic Polar Adventure; romantic comedy Ely And Naomi’s No Kiss List, with Victoria Justice; Hits directed by David Cross and starring Michael Cera, Amy Sedaris and Julia Stiles; and British comedy Chicklit starring John Hurt along with Christian McKay and Dakota Blue Richards.
