The first Sunday after the 2014-15 television season officially ended was fairly light on originals with repeats all over the schedule and some intense NBA Playoff action over on cable. But that didn’t mean there wasn’t a finale on broadcast plus some very very fast cars and some ongoing freshman newbies on NBC. With the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 (1.4/9) dominating their night, FOX took the top spot both among adults (1.4/5) and in total viewers (6.12 million) on Sunday.
However, dramatically, last night saw Battle Creek (0.6/2) pass its own finish line on CBS. Never a ratings magnet and hence not picked up by the network that almost won the 2014-15 TV Season, the freshman Vince Gilligan and David Shore odd couple cops series starring Josh Duhamel and Dean Winters was even with the double shot of the show last week. While not a finale, the same could be said of Battle Creek’s 10 PM time slot companion and fellow freshman American Odyssey (0.4/2), which was also even with its weak showing of May 17.
Shaving over 3 minutes off last year’s winning time by Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards took first place in this year’s NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 (1.4/9). However, compared to last year’s ratings, last night’s race on FOX was down 12% from the final ratings of the May 25, 2015 event. Early numbers to early numbers, the 2015 600 dipped just 7% among the key demo from the 2014 600 and, as live events like this race often see occur, we could have adjustments later – the 2014 race went up a tenth in the final numbers last year. Viewershipwise, the preliminary 6.09 million who watched this year’s 600 from 7 PM – 10 PM was down 13% from the final audience who tuned in from 7 – 10:32 PM last year – something that might want to get NASCAR’s motors running a bit harder.
The eighth episode of the Easter Sunday launched A.D. The Bible Continues (0.7/3) saw the Mark Burnett and Roma Downey produced series slide 13% to hit a new low – at least in preliminary numbers.
ABC was all encores last night.
