Kristen Stewart will reunite with her Sils Maria director Olivier Assayas in Personal Shopper, an English language ghost story set in the Paris fashion world. As in Sils Maria, for which Stewart became the first American to win Best Actress at France’s Cesar awards, CG Cinema’s Charles Gilbert will produce, MK2 will handle international sales and Les Films du Losange will co-produce.
Stuart Ford’s IM Global is teaming with Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment and Vivek J. Tiwary to produce The Fifth Beatle, about Beatles manager Brian Epstein. Tiwary wrote the screenplay. Sony/ATV Publishing have agreed to allow the use of the Beatles’ music.
Epic Pictures has picked up Norwegian horror pic Villmark Asylum and SXSW entrant Nina Forever to introduce to buyers at Cannes. Both are being released domestically by Epic Pictures Releasing in 2016. Nina Forever, which follows a deceased ex-girlfriend who returns to haunt a young man and sabotage his new relationship, is directed by the Chris and Ben Blaine and stars Fiona O’Shaughnessy and Abigail Hardingham. Villmark Asylum, directed by Pal Oie, is shot entirely in the mountains of Norway, and is a stand-alone sequel to 2003 local hit Villmark, which earned over 150,000 admissions. The film, which stars Anders Baasmo Christiansen, Ellen Dorrit Petersen, and Mads Pettersen. is about a crew of five hazardous-waste workers who are sent to a massive, abandoned sanatorium deep in the mountains. But their routine assignment takes a dark turn when they encounter the building’s terrifying past.
