Alec Baldwin, James Franco, John Cleese, Anjelica Huston, Heidi Klum and Omar Sy are set to voice characters in Arctic Justice: Thunder Squad, director Dimos Vrysellas’ CGI family pic from AMBI Pictures. The film follows an arctic fox named Swifty who longs to join a team of package delivery huskies working for the Arctic Blast Delivery Service. To prove himself, Swifty commandeers a sled of his own and, by himself, takes a package to an icy fortress owned by an evil genius (and Walrus) planning to take over the world. AMBI Distribution, the worldwide sales arm of the AMBI Group, will oversee global distribution for the film; deals are intended to begin closing during Cannes.
ARC Entertainment has acquired the Cuba Gooding, Jr.-starring family drama Freedom. Based on a true story, the film juxtaposes the lives of two men living a century apart: an escaped slave named Samuel Woodward (Cuba Gooding, Jr.), fleeing with his family via the Underground Railroad in 1856; and John Newton, the slave ship captain who in the 1700s would renounce the slave trade and write the hymn “Amazing Grace”. Freedom is directed by Peter Cousens from a script by Timothy A. Chey. In addition to Cuba Gooding, Jr., it stars William Sadler, Sharon Leal, David Rasche, Terrence Mann, and Michael Goodwin. The film will be released on VOD, Digital, and in theaters on June 5, 2015. Gooding, Jr. also serves as Executive Producer.
Cuba Gooding Jr Accused Of Rape In New New York Lawsuit
The classic post-World War II noir film The Third Man will be re-released by Rialto, after receiving a complete 4K restoration, the first time it has ever received a major restoration since its release in 1949. Starring Joseph Cotton as a failed American novelist lured to postwar Vienna by a job offer from his friend Harry Lime, it concerns a plot by a ring of thieves selling stolen food and relief supplies on the black market that somehow connects to the apparent death of Lime. Long considered one of the greatest films ever made, it won the Palm D’or when it premiered. It was directed by Carol Reed from a script by Graham Greene. The newly restored film will premiere during the Cannes Classics portion of Cannes, then open in the US at New York’s Film Forum on June 26 and L.A.’s Nuart on July 3. Other markets will follow. Restoration was handled by Deluxe Restoration on behalf of Studiocanal. In addition, a 4K restoration of Akira Kurosawa’s classic film Ran will be released later this year.
