Imperative Entertainment has set Nicholl Fellowship winner Stephanie Shannon to adapt the feature adaptation of the E. Lockhart bestselling YA novel We Were Liars. Formed in 2014 by Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Zak Kadison and Tim Kring, Imperative will finance the film, with Friedkin, Thomas and Kadison producing. They bought the novel before its publication.
It’s the coming-of-age story of a 17-year-old girl who survived a horrible accident at her family’s summer home two years ago that she cannot remember. She returns, determined to remember the details of her accident but as the pieces start to come together, she discovers not only the painful truth of that night, but a shocking revelation about herself. The book was published by Delacourt/Random House. Justin Catron is overseeing for Imperative an co-producing. CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners rep the scribe. Adam Mehr is lawyer for Imperative, which is currently producing Kring’s Heroes Reborn for NBC and is percolating numerous other projects.
