Warner Bros said today it will release its reboot of New Line’s Vacation on Wednesday, July 29, two days earlier than planned. That’s the same date the first film in the franchise, National Lampoon‘s Vacation, bowed in 1983. The comedy now gets a jump on its weekend competition led by Paramount’s Tom Cruise sequel Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and STX Entertainment’s thriller The Gift, which marks actor Joel Edgerton’s feature directorial debut.
Last week at CinemaCon, a number of exhibitors and members of the media were holding their stomachs laughing at the Vacation footage Warner Bros teased. Stars Ed Helms (who plays the grown-up Rusty Griswold, son of Chevy Chase’s Clark Griswold) and Christina Applegate (who plays his wife) also took the stage last week during Warner Bros CinemaCon presentation at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The new pic was written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.
