Fuse is continuing to reach beyond its music-centered programming roots with a greenlight today for Transcendent, a documentary series following the triumphs and struggles of a group of transgender San Francisco cabaret performers. Six episodes have been ordered from World of Wonder Productions for a fall launch.

The trans community has been an intriguing topic to TV networks, especially after the success of the Amazon original series Transparent, which this year won the Golden Globe for Outstanding TV Series – Comedy or Musical in its freshman season. The Fuse news also came out the same day ABC News confirmed its two-hour primetime interview of Bruce Jenner, the Kardashian clan patriarch who is undergoing a gender transition.

Transcendent will chronicle the multi-faceted lives of a group of bold and vibrant trans women who perform at the AsiaSF Cabaret and Restaurant while creating their own surrogate family.

World Of Wonder, run by executive producers Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey, also is behind Fuse’s Big Freedia, the network’s highest-rated series. Barbato, Bailey, Tom Campbell, Larry Hashbarger, Chris Shifflett, Brad Tiemann, and Cameron Kadison are exec producing this one.
