Tom Ham, a long-time figure in the videogame industry most recently overseeing show production for gamer-oriented online-video company Machinima, has joined Create Advertising Group in a new position. Ham will head business development in the game sector and the emerging business of virtual-reality programming.
“When it comes to mapping today’s gaming industry and knowing what is happening with the best developers and within the best companies, there are few executives who have Tom’s credibility, contacts or experience,” said Jonathan Gitlin, Create’s President of TV & Gaming Advertising. “At his core, Tom is a gamer who is truly passionate about the industry. As we grow this important area of Create Advertising, we wanted to find someone who was a recognized name within this unique space. He has relationships with every key publisher and he is the perfect choice to lead our new business-development efforts.”
Create already has become a significant presence in game marketing, with ads for big titles such as God of War, World of Tanks and Twisted Metal. The company also created ads for the launch of Sony’s PlayStation 4 console and its PlayStation Vita handheld game device.
Ham brings two decades of experience in and around the game business, initially as a journalist reviewing games for the Washington Post and writing about the business for a wide variety of top print outlets. He later oversaw brand outreach and integration for All3Media, including for their show Undercover Boss. He also worked four years for Mark Burnett Productions, overseeing brand development and product integration.
