Proving that crime might in fact pay, Suicide Squad director David Ayer has give us the first look at the film’s ragtag band of supervillains, via a cast photo taken during the first script read-through, posted earlier today on Twitter. Pictured here, out of costume of course: Will Smith (who plays Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), among others.
Not seen here of course is Jared Leto, who has been cast as The Joker. Suicide Squad is the upcoming third film in the still-developing DC Cinematic Universe. Based on various versions from DC Comics, it concerns an elite squad of black ops agents working for the US Government, recruited exclusively from the ranks of the comics universe’s roster of supervillains. (They’re generally either blackmailed, or offered reduced sentences in exchange for signing up.) The film is scheduled for release August 5, 2016. Filming is set to begin later this month.
