CBS’ Mom is starting to settle into its temporary Thursday 9 PM slot, where the sophomore comedy is being tested with a couple of airings. Last night, Mom drew a 2.2 in adults 18-49, up 10% (.2) from its first outing at 9 PM last week. The Big Bang Theory (3.7) kicked off things for CBS on a higher note, up 9% from last week’s fast national. That helped The Odd Couple (2.2), which was up a tenth at 8:30 PM in its campaign to secure a renewal. Maybe it was the Big Bang repeat lead-in taking hold at 9:30 PM, but Elementary (1.4) had a nice bump at 10 PM (17%) to wrap across-the-board gains for CBS, which won the night in 18-49 (1.9) and total viewers (9.6 million).
After a break last week to make room for a two-hour Grey’s Anatomy block, ABC’s Scandal (2.4) was up 14% in its return. The thriller likely was boosted by its main competition, NBC’s The Blacklist, airing a rerun last night (and maybe by the return of Papa Pope). With Scandal back as a lead-in, American Crime (1.1, +22%) rebounded after taking an 18% tumble last Thursday, when it followed Grey’s Anatomy.
Fox’s Bones (1.0) and Backstom (0.7) each slipped a tenth to series lows, with the newbie hitting the dreaded 0.7 demo rating. NBC’s only original last night was Dateline at 10 PM (1.1, even).
The Vampire Diaries aired its first original in a month and the first since star Nina Dobrev announced her pending departure. Maybe fans didn’t get a memo that the vampire drama was back as it drew a 0.6 in 18-49, down a tenth from its last episode; that would tie a series low in Live+Same Day if there is no upward adjustment in the finals. But Reign (0.4), also back from a monthlong break, was up a tenth.
