Paramount Pictures said today that its EVP Worldwide Marketing Bob Buchi will become president of Worldwide Home Media Distribution. The move comes a couple weeks after it parted ways with former boss Dennis Maguire, who had been at the studio since 2006 after a long run at Disney. Maguire was part of the wave of Viacom layoffs that hit not just the Melrose Ave studio but also Nickelodeon and MTV.
Buchi previously oversaw the Brand, Retail and Digital Marketing teams and was responsible for the strategic product marketing and management on franchises Transformers, Star Trek, SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Paranormal Activity.
Buchi, who also joined Paramount in 2006, will report into Megan Colligan, the studio’s President of Worldwide Distribution & Marketing. “Within an ever-evolving home media landscape, Bob’s proven track record of success across a diverse portfolio of theatrical releases, acquisitions, family and television product makes him the ideal person to lead our team as we continue to strive for even greater creativity and innovation,” she said in the announcement today.
Last month, in a nod to the industrywide decline in disc sales, Paramount agreed to let Universal Pictures Home Entertainment distribute its DVD and Blu-ray product in overseas markets where Paramount has an office; the five-year deal begins in the UK on July 1. Soon after that deal there was shakeup at the top of the studio, with Adam Goodman departing as Motion Picture Group boss and Marc Evans, formerly president of production, stepped up into the role. So Paramount likes to promote from within.
His team now includes Peter Giannascoli, SVP Marketing for Home Media, who is expanding his role to include oversight of all aspects of worldwide marketing for the division; Gaspare Benso, GM of International Home Media Distribution, who will oversee the Universal transition overseas; Jeff Hastings, SVP Domestic Sales; Tripp Wood, SVP Digital Sales & Distribution; Howard Hsieh, VP Business Development/Strategic Analysis; and Ryan Stouffer, SVP of VMI and Operations.
