“Maybe this is exactly where I’m supposed to be right now.” Here’s our first look at Season 3 of Netflix’s signature comedy, er, popular drama — per the TV Academy. Emmy nominee Taylor Schilling is back as Piper, alongside Emmy winner Uzo Aduba as Crazy Eyes and Red, Taystee, Poussey, Sophia, Daya, Gloria, Big Boo, Pennsatucky and the other women of Litchfield Penitentiary. The trailer doesn’t offer up too much is terms of storyline, but we do get punches and hugs, raps and musing, smiles and sneers.
Jenji Kohan’s series had an eventful offseason, sweeping the comedy categories at the SAG Awards and hoarding hardware from the Critics’ Choice and PGA camps. It also scored an impressive 10 Emmy noms including Outstanding Comedy Series and three wins. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences last month ruled OITNB ineligible for the comedy categories, leaving it to vie the drama’s big boys this year. “While we’re disappointed in the committee’s decision,” Netflix’s content honcho Ted Sarandos said at the time. “We believe that Orange represents the best of television in either category.” Judging from the two-minute peek released today, the humor remains intact.
Expect to see more of four actors — Adrienne C. Moore (Cindy Hayes), Selenis Leyva (Gloria Mendoza), Nick Sandow (Joe Caputo) and Samira Wiley (Poussey Washington) — who were upper to regular during the past year. Season 3 goes upstream June 12.
