Hard on the heels of the Broadway import of Wolf Hall from the Royal Shakespeare Company, and The Audience, with Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth, more Royal Crown is pouring this way. Producers Stuart Thompson (represented currently with Skylight and The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time) and Sonia Friedman (Fish In The Dark, The River) will bring Mike Bartlett’s play about Britain’s future king, and its celebrated star, Tim Pigott-Smith, to the Music Box Theatre, current home to the limited-run The Heidi Chronicles.
King Charles III was named Best New Play at last night’s Olivier Awards. Following its run at the Almeida Theatre and in the West End, the Rupert Goold-staged play will begin previews October 10, with opening night set for November 1. The acclaimed play imagines Prince Charles’ ascension to the throne following his mother’s death.
Complete cast, creative, and additional information for King Charles III will be announced shortly.
