Drafthouse Films has acquired worldwide rights to Karyn Kusama’s The Invitation, which had its world premiere at this year’s SXSW Midnight section. The deal for the Girlfight director’s latest pic was low seven figures. No release date plans have been announced. Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus) stars in the thriller as a haunted man attending a dinner party at the house he once called home, who becomes gripped with paranoia that his ex-wife and her new husband are harboring an insidious agenda. Tammy Blanchard, Michiel Huisman, Emayatzy Corinealdi and John Carroll Lynch co-star. Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi wrote the script and produced with Martha Griffin along with Nick Spicer of XYZ Films. Gamechanger Films financed in association with Lege Artis.
The deal was negotiated by ICM Partners and Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films on behalf of the filmmakers, and James Emanuel Shapiro from Drafthouse, which last week picked up Tetsuya Nakasima’s ultra-violent Japanese thriller The World Of Kanako for later in 2015.
Bond/360 has boarded Giovanna Morales Vargas’ A Perfect 14, a feature documentary now in production that looks at the controversial term “plus-size” and the divisive influence it has on society and the fashion industry. James Earl O’Brien is producing, and Bond/360 founder and CEO Marc Schiller now will serve as executive producer. The indie distributor will release the pic next year. Amanda Lebow from BOND/360 negotiated the deal.
