Premium Content Network Endemol Beyond is launching its first ever Mip-TV slate under the auspices of the newly formed Endemol Shine Group. Highlights include the ICON Network, the global lifestyle channel creatively led by Michelle Phan. ICON launched simultaneously in the U.S and UK last week with rollouts across Western Europe and Asia to follow in the summer and autumn. Also heading to Cannes for the first time is Legends Of Gaming, which originated in the UK and has begun its international roll out having sold to Germany, Brazil, France and the U.S. The series features both up-and-coming and established YouTube stars as they battle it out in a nationwide tournament to find the ultimate gamer. On the finished programming slate is Simon’s Cat, the second largest animation channel in the world; People Are Awesome, and French internet comedy sketch show The Woop Gang, which has over 115 million views. Endemol Beyond was one of the fastest-growing digital networks of 2014 and now has over 500M monthly views across various platforms.

Corona Television and FremantleMedia International have entered a deal for action/romance drama The Fight. Written and to be directed by Stephen Kay (Covert Affairs, Sons Of Anarchy), the series follows conflict photographer, Riley Miller and journalist Carroll Hobbs as they journey across the continents, risking their lives in search of pictures and stories that might change the world. Piper Perabo stars. FMI will introduce the series at Mip next week.
The Shortest Straw, the first primetime game show format from the partnership between Nordic World, the distributor owned by TV2 Norway, and London-based Boxatricks, will be piloted on TV2 Norway in the run up to Mipcom 2015. The Norwegian pilot of the hourlong primetime format will go into production in the UK this August, under the creative guidance of Boxatricks co-founders Steve Springford and Colman Hutchinson. Devised and developed by Boxatricks with Fintan Coyle, The Shortest Straw pits six contestants against each other in quick-fire rounds of multiple-choice questions. A wrong answer means the player must draw a straw and risk instant elimination from the contest, along with the chance to win a life-changing jackpot. At Mip-TV next week, Nordic World will pre-sell the format to select European partners, who will also be offered the opportunity to produce a cost-effective local pilot on the UK set this summer.
Entertainment One Television has entered a first-look deal with Mark Ford and Kevin Lopez’ Creature Films for unscripted programming. The pair founded Creature Films as a full service film and television production company in 2004, and together they have produced over 100 hours of programming for networks including MTV, VH1, Bravo, Oxygen, TV Land, History Channel, and TLC. Their producing and show-running credits include MTV’s Laguna Beach; VH1’s Emmy-nominated Behind The Music, Bravo’s Kandi Factory and upcoming There Goes The Motherhood. They have also produced and directed such music docs as NWA: The World’s Most Dangerous Group, Let’s Spend The Night Together, and Uprising: Hip Hop And The LA Riots. They are currently producing a new music biography series called The Ride for MTV International and have more than a dozen projects in development. Alternative programming producers who have first-look deals in place with eOne include Kevin Healey and Riaz Patel.
