The final time-shifted ratings are in for AMC’s Better Call Saul, and the verdict is official: the Breaking Bad spinoff is cable’s No. 1 new series of the season in total viewers (5.9 million), adults 18-49 (3.7 million) and adults 25-54 (3.6 million) in Live+3 numbers.
AMC also said today the Season 1 finale April 6 drew 5.1 million viewers and 3.1 million adults 18-49 — impressive considering it competed against the championship game of the NCAA Tournament in primetime. The shifted boost is likely a reflection of that: the finale’s L+3 numbers improved by 103% in viewers, 106% in 18-49 and 109% in adults 25-54 compared with Live+Same Day. (Monday’s Live+SD Saul ratings at 10 PM drew 2.53M million viewers and a 1.2 rating in adults 18-49.)
“As much as we enjoyed the year-plus gestation period that included friends, fans, critics and even family members telling us not to mess with the legacy of Breaking Bad (one of the most beloved series in television history), this was never anything we took even close to lightly,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “Happily, the first season of Better Call Saul delivered on every level imaginable thanks to the continued brilliance of, and enjoyable partnership with, Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould.”
Even before the record-breaking numbers of its February 8 premiere, Better Call Saul was picked up for a second season.
