AOL will begin distributing Fox Sports video content, including game highlights and material from @TheBuzzer, Garbage Time and Fox Sports Digital Originals, the companies announced in an AOL blog post this morning.
Fox covers Major League Baseball, the NFL, college football, NASCAR, soccer and more, and AOL said the deal is part of a plan to beef up its sports programming and distribution this year. The companies also will jointly develop “content experiences” tied to big games, as a way to draw in highly engaged viewers and offer advertisers some new options.
The old-school digital network that is AOL, as with Yahoo, is continuing to move into new programming offerings as it morphs from its initial corporate DNA into an online-video power with both broad reach and original programming that can attract eyeballs and advertising revenue.
