EXCLUSIVE: Lorene Scafaria wrote and will direct The Meddler, a film that will star Susan Sarandon, Rose Byrne and freshly minted Oscar winner J.K. Simmons. Pic is Scafaria’s directing follow-up to Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World.
Pic tells the story of Marnie Minervini, a recent widow and eternal optimist who transplants to Hollywood to be closer to her daughter, only to embark on a sea change all her own. Armed with an iPhone and a full bank account, Marnie sets out to make new friends, find her purpose, and possibly maybe even think about dating. Joy Gorman-Wettels and Paul Green of Anonymous Content will produce. Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin will executive produce with Sarandon. Production begins late March in Los Angeles, and the project was jointly packaged by CAA and UTA, which is arranging the financing and repping domestic distribution rights. Scafaria is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content, Sarandon by UTA, Byrne by CAA and RGM Artists and Simmons by Gersh.
