EXCLUSIVE: The topical documentary from directors Scott Christopherson and Brad Barber centers on William “Dub” Lawrence, a former sheriff who established and trained his rural state’s first SWAT team only to see that same unit kill his son-in-law in a controversial standoff 30 years later. Peace Officer follows an obsessed Dub as he investigates this and other recent officer-involved shootings in his community. The film also tackles larger questions about the use of force and military surplus going to police. It premieres March 15 at SXSW.
