Murder In The First executive producer Eric Lodal has left the TNT crime drama series, which he co-created and co-ran with Steven Bochco. I hear the abrupt departure happened yesterday, midway through production on the show’s upcoming second season. Veteran Bochco will continue as the sole executive producer/showrunner. “We thank Eric for his good work and wish him well in his future endeavors,” a TNT spokesperson said in a statement to Deadline.
The network would not comment on the circumstances surrounding Lodal’s departure. According to sources close to the series, there have been issues involving staff on the show and production deadlines. Murder In The First is currently filming Episode 6 of its 12-episode second season.
A departure from the usual crime procedural, Murder In The First follows San Francisco homicide detectives Terry English (Taye Diggs) and Hildy Mulligan (Kathleen Robertson) as they investigate a complex case over the span of one entire season.
In its first season, Murder In The First averaged more than 4.7 million viewers in Live+7 delivery, including 1.3 million adults 25-54. Through TNT’s various platforms, the series reached an average of 9.2 million viewers through live television viewing, DVR playback, set-top VOD and digital on-demand.
