The Grand Budapest Hotel and Wild took the top film honors tonight in the second annual Location Managers Guild Awards which were presented at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. The black-tie event honored the most outstanding and creative contributions of location pros in seven categories of film, television and commercials. Location manager David Doumeng hosted tonight’s event with a bevy of presenters that included Alfre Woodard, Debbie Allen, Ted Lange, Tony Denison (Major Crimes), Kevin Clark (AFCI executive director), Harry Medved (Location Managers historian) and writer/director/award-winning commercial director James Manera.
Special awards went to several individual. Woodard presented the Humanitarian Award to FilmAid International Founder and Oscar-nominated film producer Caroline Baron who founded FilmAid in 1999. Film Aid provides human connection and hope, supplementing basic needs for food and shelter.
Allen and Lange presented the Lifetime Achievement to the first ever black location manager, Kokayi Ampah. Over his many years, he has worked on such films as a The Shawshank Redemption, Million Dollar Baby (one of six projects he managed for Clint Eastwood) and Amistad, his second film with Steven Spielberg.
And finally, Location Scout Marino Pascal, creator of the archival forum for location professionals named Locolist, received the Trailblazer Award. It was presented by Steve Dayan (Teamsters 399) for “single-handedly revolutionizing the world of locations in Los Angeles.”
