What do you watch on that hotel-room TV? Key Brand Entertainment owner John Gore hopes that Kinky Boots will prevail over kinky everything else. KBE, which produces, promotes and sells tickets to legit shows via Broadway Across America, Broadway.com and Group Sales Box Office, has acquired The Broadway Channel, which creates theater-related programming seen mostly on hotel cable channels. Terms weren’t disclosed.
“We are looking forward to the expansion and opportunities this acquisition creates,” Gore said in announcing the deal. “We will be able to combine the content libraries of Broadway.com and The Broadway Channel and then employ the plethora of new technologies and digital platforms on the media landscape to make that Broadway content even more accessible nationwide.” Primarily through Broadway Across America, KBE has become a financing contender, investing in productions on and off-Broadway, in London’s West End, Japan, Canada and 40 domestic markets. It’s a producer of the upcoming musical adaptation of Doctor Zhivago and was a partner on the Tony-winning Memphis and revival of Pippin, among many other shows.
Matt Hege, SVP Broadway Channel Television and Media, added, “Key Brand Entertainment is a natural fit.” He will join KBE’s management team overseeing The Broadway Channel, which will operate within the KBE Interactive Division as a part of its family of companies.
