Pop is beefing up its original scripted offerings with a second acquisition. The cable network has picked up 13 episodes of comedy series Impress Me, from Rainn Wilson’s production company, SoulPancake. It will premiere March 18, paired with Pop’s first original scripted series, Canadian import Schitt’s Creek starring Eugene Levy, which Pop says is the most watched show on the network since 2011.
Pop will air six episodes of Impress Me that had already premiered online on SoulPancake’s YouTube channel plus an additional seven that have never been seen before.
Created by writer/director Ben Shelton, Impress Me centers on celebrity impressionists Ross Marquand (Mad Men) and Jim Meskimen (Parks And Recreation) who are trying to quit doing impressions and transition into serious, dramatic actors. The effect: total chaos. Celebrity cameos include Angela Kinsey, Erika Christensen, Matt Jones, Josh Groban and “Weird Al” Yankovic.
“We discovered this gem of a show on YouTube from Rainn Wilson and SoulPancake that absolutely killed us,” said Brad Schwartz, President, Pop. “And since we know that nobody is watching content online ;), we wanted to bring our television audience exclusive new episodes of this scripted comedy series that captures the spirit of celebrity fandom with a ton of heart, while also being a great match to follow the biggest hit in our network’s history, Schitt’s Creek, on Wednesday nights.”
