Charlotte Gainsbourg, fresh off appearing in Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac movies, has joined the cast of Roland Emmerich’s sequel Independence Day 2, which 20th Century Fox is ramping up after greenlighting the follow-up to the 1996 original that grossed $811 million worldwide. The film has been slotted for a May production start and Fox has staked a June 24, 2016, release date. Original star Will Smith is not reprising his role, with Liam Hemsworth boarding to join returnees Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman and now indie stalwart Gainsbourg. She’s the Paris-born actor-singer whose credits include von Trier’s 2011 pic Melancholia, and this is a big step up into a major U.S. tentpole. Emmerich made her joining official on Twitter:
Cinema Libre Studio has picked up Days Of Grace, the feature debut of Mexico helmer Everardo Gout who also scripted. The movie will go out day-and-date May 1 in U.S. theatres and on HBO, and via DVD/Blu-ray and On Demand starting May 5. The tale of police and government corruption in Mexico City took eight Ariel Awards including best first film, best actor and supporting actress following its April 2012 debut in its home country. The ambitious multi-threaded movie unfolds over a dozen years amid multiple kidnappings during successive World Cup soccer tournaments. It stars Tenoch Huerta, Dolores Heredia, Kristyan Ferrer, Carlos Bardem and Eileen Yañez.
