Orange Is The New Black regular Dascha Polanco is set to co-star in Joy, the David O. Russell pic from Fox 2000 about the rags-to-riches story of Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano. Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper and Edgar Ramirez star.
Deadline broke the story last year of the project that reteams American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook helmer Russell and his co-star Lawrence. Russell is rewriting and directing the story of the remarkable life story of Mangano, a struggling Long Island single mom of three who became one of the country’s most successful entrepreneurs with her self-wringing Miracle Mop invention. The project has a script by Annie Mumolo, who with Kristen Wiig got Oscar nominations for scripting Bridesmaids.
Polanco, repped by Gersh and manager Dave McKeown, will play Jackie, Joy’s fearless and loyal best friend who helps her start the mop company. She will next be seen in Tom McCarthy’s Adam Sandler movie The Cobbler, which hits theaters March 13.
Polanco plays Dayanara Diaz on Netflix’s original series OITNB, which will premiere its third season June 12.
