Alex Roe, one of the co-stars in Sony Pictures’ YA film The 5th Wave, has just been cast as the male lead in the third installment of Paramount Pictures’ horror franchise Rings for director Javier Guierrez (Before The Fall). This is a nice starring role for the actor (and the second big role in a year) who will star opposite Matilda Lutz. He will be playing Holt, who is the boyfriend to Lutz’s character and becomes distant from her after watching the tape.
The move is a smart one given that the horror franchise will raise Roe’s profile internationally. The Ring Two grossed $85 million overseas for a total (adding in domestic) of $161.4million worldwide when it bowed in 2005. Together the first two have tallied $411 million worldwide.
The third installment of the popular horror franchise is being produced by Walter Parkes and Laurie Macdonald from a shooting script by Ehren Kruger. It is slated to bow (when else?) Friday, the 13th of November. The original The Ring in 2002 was based on the Japanese film Ringu which was adapted from the novel by Koji Suzuki.
Roe recently wrapped filming the role of Chloe Moretz’s love interest in 5th Wave based on the YA book of the same name which was listed as one of the best YA books of 2013 by The New York Times Review of Books. He is repped by WME and Lena Roklin at LuberRoklin.
