I’ve learned that IFC is nearing a series order for Uncle Chubby’s (working title), a single-camera comedy from Denis Leary and Jim Serpico’s Apostle production company. The network put the project into fast-track development last fall. Written by Serpico and Apostle SVP Tom Sellitti, Uncle Chubby’s follows a diverse group of twentysomething friends. The one common denominator they all share is their ice hockey team. Leary, a well-known hockey enthusiast, Serpico and Sellitti executive produce. IFC declined comment.
A pickup would give Apostle two series on IFC — the company also has comedy Maron, which will return for a third season this year. Elsewhere, Apostle has upcoming FX comedy series Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, which stars Leary, and sophomore USA comedy Sirens.
