Ian McKellen plays a pensioner-age Sherlock Holmes in Mr Holmes, the drama from director Bill Condon that is having its world premiere at the just-launching Berlin Film Festival. It’s 1947, and upon returning from Japan having witnessed the atomic devastation, the world’s greatest detective has settled into his remote farmhouse. The 93-year-old Holmes has only the company of his housekeeper (Laura Linney) and her young son (Milo Parker). Grappling with diminishing mental powers, Holmes relies on the boy as he revisits the circumstances of the unsolved case that forced him into retirement and searches for answers to the mysteries of life and love – before it’s too late.

Roadside Attractions and Miramax are partnering to distribute the film in the U.S. later this year.
