Miranda, a real rising star on Broadway, is also author of the Tony-winning In The Heights. In his latest work, Manuel tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, the Founding Father best known as the face on the $10 bill and loser to Aaron Burr in a gun duel.
Hamilton was much more than that, a complicated bundle of energy and complications who inserted himself in many corners of the process of founding the United States, and stirred up enough controversies and bad feelings along the way to land himself in the New Jersey woods on the wrong end of the Vice President’s gun.
Based on Ron Chernow’s prize-winning biography, Miranda’s musical — he also stars in the title role — merges rap storytelling and more conventional Broadway musical styles that pay homage to shows as different as Les Miserables and Rent.
