No surprise here — Bravo has ordered a 13-episode second season of its first original scripted series Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, from Universal Cable Productions.
While not a ratings breakout, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce was well received by critics, created a lot of buzz in social media for Bravo and has been growing through its freshman run, a rare feat for a new series. It earned a series high for the Jan. 27 episode across all key demos with nearly 1.5 million total viewers, 983,000 adults 25-54 and 872,000 adults 18-49, according to Nielsen Live+3 data.
From creator and executive producer Marti Noxon based on the book by Vicki Iovine, the series follows Abby McCarthy (Lisa Edelstein), a self-help book author whose seemingly perfect career and marriage simultaneously implode, and she finds herself navigating life as a single woman in her 40s.
“Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce has struck a chord with Bravo viewers with its sharp-witted humor and emotionally honest take on divorce and starting over,” said Lara Spotts, SVP of Development for Bravo Media.
Bravo brass had been cautious in entering the scripted space. They waited for Girlfriends’ Guide to premiere before committing to new projects. There are no pilots in the network’s pipeline at the moment. That should change in light of Girlfriend’s successful launch.
There are three more episodes left from Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce‘s first season, with the next one airing Feb. 10.
