Saturday Night Live alum Finesse Mitchell has been tapped for a recurring role on HBO’s new comedy pilot Brothers In Atlanta, written by and starring former Late Night With Jimmy Fallon writers/performers Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin and executive produced by Lorne Michaels. Maya Rudolph and Jaden Smith also will appear in the pilot. The story centers on best friends Langston (Riddle) and Moose (Salahuddin), who are two struggling entertainers living in Atlanta. Mitchell will play Walter, one of the backup singers to Shirle (Rudolph) and a nemesis to Moose (Salahuddin). Mitchell, repped by ICM Partners and Factory Management, is currently shooting a guest starring role in Cameron Crowe’s Showtime pilot Roadies. In addition to SNL, his previous credits include Disney’s A.N.T. Farm and BET/ Centric’s According To Him & Her.
Derek Luke has landed a role opposite Thandie Newton and Cole Hauser on the third season of DirecTV’s suspense drama series Rogue. He’ll play Marlon Dinard, the leader of the 13th Street Kings, a powerful street gang. Shooting on Season 3 begins next week in Toronto. Luke, repped by ICM Partners, Greenlight Management and Ziffren Brittenham, will be seen on Fox’s Empire in an upcoming 5-episode arc. On the film side, he’s featured opposite Ryan Reynolds in Tarsem Singh’s Self/Less, set for release this July.
